Glass vessels
2004 - 2012
I learned the art of Kiln-cast Glass when I lived in New Zealand. This whimsical group of vessels touches on my feelings about travelling and being a newly arrived immigrant to New Zealand.
-
I created a series of vessels while I learning the complex skills needed for kiln-cast glass. I had just arrived in New Zealand and the moving vessels with their wheels and anthropomorphic qualities satisfied my unsettled feelings.
-
I was fortunate to be in New Zealand when the Gaffer glass factory was in Auckland, and I could choose from their wide range of lead-crystal colours. I learned the basics of refractory molds and assembling wax positives. I developed a way of creating hanging refractory cores in order to melt the glass through the lip of the vessel: this allowed me to add different legs and wheels.
